The difference between Television and the web is going to get even more blurred very soon. Google is to partner with Sony and Intel about powering the television directly thru the internet. It will use the Android operating system and the Chrome platform as a browser. For a long time Television has been available on the internet in a variety of ways so what’s the big deal?
A very big deal at that.
Now someone will directly turn his Sony TV on and use it the way he would use a regular TV. The user may not even know that the entire system would be working on an internet based platform. The ramifications of all this are varied and immense. There will no fixed position for the service as someone can program the system to access any area and its local TV stations. Advertisers will be able to compete for advertiser space in the commercial slots. There are endless possibilities for generating new revenue. An entire new industry will pop up as this becomes more accessible to all.
These may include systems that will mimic present TV accessibility without the user ever knowing he is using the internet . There will be companies vying for customers in this regard.
The possibilities are endless. Google, simply amazing.
